Aquarium Fish Rearing: Cruelty through Ignorance

Animals are not humans but they also have the right to live a life that best fit them. It is cruel to treat domesticated animals (and even wild animals) with violence. It is inhuman of us to purposely neglect our pets. More often than not, pets are treated with care by their owners. In some instances though, misinformation on the permissible way to care for a pet leads to neglect and cruelty. The bottom line is: cruel acts to animals happen because of lack of data on how to properly care for that singular breed of mammal, bird or fish.

Aquarium Mania
It seems like every home has a fish tank. Some do know how to properly care for their aquarium but most do not. There are a estimate of misconceptions about holding a fish tank. A lot of newbie fish enthusiasts think that holding an aquarium prosperous is easy. They think that all that needs to be done is buy a fish tank, fill it with water, sand, decorative plants, the mandatory ceramic figurine, a batch of gold fish and wallah! - an instant showcase for house and friends to ogle at. They are wrong.

Aquatic Plants For Aquariums

Mini-aquarium packages are available in most pet stores. What is sad about this plight is that the pet store owner should have the sense to know that fish in a small aquarium has lesser opening of prosperous and surviving. How so? A small aquarium has a smaller opening of replicating the natural bacteria and biological processes that is needed for the fish to flourish. A bigger aquarium is great for a newbie fish enthusiast granting that he allows the tank's water chemistry to stabilize before populating it with fish. Another common mistake is adding too many fish at once. The fish hobbyist should only add a join of tough fish and see how they thrive in the aquarium. The bacteria colony in the aquarium should be well-established before adding more fish.

Over-populating the fish tank is another common mistake. An overstocked fish tank authentically looks nice but the fish in the tank are likely to be stressed and be overwhelmed. It is best to compute for the right estimate of fish-inch per gallon. Highly recommended ratio for the inch per gallon rule is 80% of the net water (amount of water added after sand and other decorations were added). For example, a fish tank with a net gallon of 20 multiplied by 80% yields to 16 inches of fish. This means you can have 16-1 inch fish in the tank or 8 -2 inch fish or 4- 4 inch fish or 2 - 8 inch fish in the tank.
What to Avoid

Other common mistakes that can be construed as unintentional cruelty are: overfeeding; holding incompatible fish together in one tank; insufficient filtration system; not testing and changing the water; improper lighting; not treating diseased fish; not acclimatizing the fish when transferring to the tank and more.

It is easy adequate to unknowingly perform cruel acts to the fish just as it is easy adequate to learn more about holding a fish tank before plunging into the hobby.
